New ThyCa Grant Will Support Research in Medullary Thyroid Cancer (02/05)

Grant Proposal Summaries Due by March 15, 2005

ThyCa: Thyroid Cancer Survivors' Association, Inc., is pleased to announce the expansion of its research grant program, with new funds available in 2005 to support a research project focusing on Medullary Thyroid Cancer. Medullary Thyroid Cancer topics include research on pathogenesis, clinical aspects of the disease, or treatment of Medullary Thyroid Cancer, which is one of the rarer types of thyroid cancer. Initial proposals for the new grant should be submitted online to the American Thyroid Association (ATA) at www.thyroid.org by March 15, 2005.

The grant funds are available to researchers at any hospital or research institution. The proposals will receive independent peer review by an expert scientific panel of the ATA. Funds will be awarded for two-year terms, based on receipt and review of a satisfactory progress report from funded investigators in the fourth quarter of the first year. The ATA web site has details about the funding and eligibility requirements.

This new grant is in addition to ThyCa's 2005 Thyroid Cancer Research Grant announced earlier, for which proposals are currently under review by an expert scientific panel of the ATA.

"We're proud and excited by the success of our research fundraising and grateful to our dedicated volunteers and generous donors who have made these grants possible," said Gary Bloom, ThyCa Board Chair. "We greatly appreciate the support and expertise of the American Thyroid Association in reviewing and selecting the most promising research proposals for funding. Through expanded research, we hope to achieve our goal of a cure for all thyroid cancer and a future free of thyroid cancer."
